Every year we organise a golf tournament on a fixed date, being the Friday following Ascension Day. For many Belgians, this is an long weekend so traditionally many come to enjoy the Spanish sun. 

Update 11 may 2024

Thank you to all the golf players and people who came in the evening for the Belgian walking dinner.  EUR 1,700 in prize money was distributed among the 40 participants and everyone went home with a prize. Winner were the team Gert Van Laere / Patrick Hannecart and the nearest was won by Sue Bassi. We will be back next year. Mark down the date of Friday 30 May 2025 for the next edition.

UPDATE March '24

Dear friends of Belgians,

This year we are playing our tournament at Azata Golf. The course is in fantastic shape after the occasional rain over the past few weeks.

This year we have a new main sponsor. Jose Gonzalez has offered to put his 2 businesses in the spotlight, being the widely acclaimed QG bar where you can now go for Belgian food as well as Belgian beers. And also his ROY22, the real estate agency where many Belgians have already found their dream location on the Costa Del Sol. 

The competition formula is Texas Scramble. ‘Texas Scramble’ is a golf game formula where each player on a team tees off on each hole. The players then decide which ball has the best position for the second shot. Once this is confirmed, the other player picks up his ball and both players continue playing from the chosen position. This is until the hole is played out.’ Feel free to let us know if you would like to play with someone in particular. Otherwise, we will link you with a suitable teammate.... exciting ! 

Last year we had a prize pool worth EUR 44 per participant and this year promises to be another edition where prizes will be thrown around !  The winners will have prizes anyway and there will also be a nearest-to-the-pin for the ladies and gentlemen. All other prizes will be divided among the participants. Traditionally, there will also be a prize for the cutest photo posted on facebook.

After the tournament, we will organise a reception and prize giving at our sponsor QG Bar in La Duquesa port. After the prize giving, everyone who wants can enjoy a Belgian Walking Dinner where many hot and cold dishes will be served, of course with appropriate drinks. Our sponsor will also provide music this year so that we can party and dance until late.

UPDATE March '23 : It has been decided : we will play at Azata Golf again this year. The cooperation with the management of Azata Golf Club went smoothly last year and that is why we have again chosen this beautifully groomed golf course. However, the alternatives were not bad either, being Estepona Golf or La Duquesa Golf, but both golf clubs are still working hard on the renovation and quality of their courses and these golf clubs could not give us a guarantee that their courses will be completely in order by May 2023.

It was announced earlier that we have a new name sponsor of our tournament since this year. The nice people at Pro Reno Marbella, experts in renovation, remodelling, interior advice or complete transformation projects and who also help you in your own language have committed to become name sponsor of the 5th edition of our golf tournament. Be sure to visit the website www.proreno.es  or meet them in person during our tournament or Belgian diner. 

The Belgian golf tournament is a friendly tournament with a focus on fun and getting to know new people. To add to this, we are therefore playing a new tournament format this year: Texas Scramble.

So with this formula, no stress for a bad shot or a bad stroke because your team member will score all the points for you !

We play in teams of 2 players. So please indicate at registration if you want to play with a friend. If it does not matter to you, we will select a cool teammate for you. So very interesting for those who want to meet new people. 

This new formula also means that we all start together. The starting time ('gunshot') is scheduled at 9.30 am.

An additional advantage is that we all finish at the same time, which means there is plenty of time to have a drink together and meet new Belgian friends on hole 19 (at the bar of Azata Golf).

Perhaps the following practical information. A sandwich for lunch will be provided for everyone. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know. There will also be buggies for the players.

Next year, we will evaluate the chosen tournament format and course selection.

It remains our intention to play our tournament one day at La Duquesa Golf, the club of our beloved hometown Manilva.

For those people who want to learn to play golf, we will also provide a golf initiation ('golf clinic'). These people will also have a chance to win some great prizes.

In the evening (from 19h) we will then traditionally organise a belgian dinner and prize-giving ceremony at beach club La Cubanga (on the embankment in Puerto de la Duquesa) and non-golfers are also invited for a Belgian dinner !

UPDATE jan '23 : The preparations for the 5th edition have already started. Reserve the date Friday 19th May in your agenda. In time we hope to be able to play on our golf course of Manilva - La Duquesa golf. But there is still a lot of work to be done to restore the course to its former grandeur. In the autumn it will be decided where we will play the 2023 edition.

UPDATE 28 May 2022: Report of a wonderful tournament and dinner. 

Azata golf had prepared the terrain fantastically and the sun was out in full force. The course was a bit challenging for some of us but nevertheless there were some people who played a very good score.

In the men's category, Diego Sosa (HCP 21) had the best score (40pts). In the women's group, Anne Guns (HCP 12) was the primus with 34 points. In total there were 40 players and 7 people attended the clinic. This year again there were a lot of prizes thanks to our sponsors (Zapinvest our main sponsor, law firm Etienne Baudoin Alcojor, Brunos Carrental (now also long term rental through Scandia cars), restaurant Ramos, restaurant Sabor Toscano, restaurant La Traviata, premium chirinquito Amaka Beach, best breakfast and lunch of the dyke 'Miel', baby shop (also online) Paradisio, Azata Golf, La Duquesa Golf (also for a day dish super), really an experience 'Onou Experiences', café QG bar, café 'Cathy's Clown', mini golf 'Roman Oasis' at Paul and Hotel Dona Louisa on the renewed dyke in Sabinillas. In total, more than EUR 1,250 worth of prizes were distributed and we were able to make 25 golfers happy with a (tombola) prize. 

In the evening, 61 people stayed for dinner after the prize-giving ceremony. So also a lot of non golfers came to enjoy the menu of Thierry, the chef and owner, that he made especially for us Belgians in restaurant La Cubanga on the dike in La Duquesa.
